Eraserheads. No The End./
Approximately twenty-four hours after the Eraserheads Reunion Concert and I'm still here reeling from the abrupt ending. All I have to comfort me is my Eraserheads anthology CD. (The rest of their albums, I have on cassette.)
Yes, we understand that the reunion which lasted for 15 songs was miraculous enough. Yes, Ely Buendia is a sick and it was heroic of him to go on despite the stress the concert has brought about and the sudden death of his mom just a couple of days prior. Yes, we understand why we need to say a silent prayer and proceed to calmly walk out of the arena. Yes, we get it but still my insides are screaming, "NO! It's not right!"
This is how it should have ended. The remaining members Raimund, Marcus, and Buddy should have gone up on stage and announced to everybody that Ely had to be rushed to the hospital. Then, as a show of solidarity they will play one last song in honor of him. Slowly, they take to their instruments. Then, amidst the total silence of Bonifacio open field, the crowd would hear the first few chords to the song, “Pare Ko”. They’ll all look up to the stage, lonely without Ely, and they’ll begin to sing. One by one, they’ll start to chant…
“O Pare ko, meron akong problema. Huwag mong sabihin nanaman…”
Then, we would all have sung as one. Then, we’d leave with water gushing from our eyes, our hearts filled to the brim.
Now, that's the way to end the concert of the year.
