Eraserheads. No The End./

Approximately twenty-four hours after the Eraserheads Reunion Concert and I'm still here reeling from the abrupt ending. All I have to comfort me is my Eraserheads anthology CD. (The rest of their albums, I have on cassette.)

Yes, we understand that the reunion which lasted for 15 songs was miraculous enough. Yes, Ely Buendia is a sick and it was heroic of him to go on despite the stress the concert has brought about and the sudden death of his mom just a couple of days prior. Yes, we understand why we need to say a silent prayer and proceed to calmly walk out of the arena. Yes, we get it but still my insides are screaming, "NO! It's not right!"

This is how it should have ended. The remaining members Raimund, Marcus, and Buddy should have gone up on stage and announced to everybody that Ely had to be rushed to the hospital. Then, as a show of solidarity they will play one last song in honor of him. Slowly, they take to their instruments. Then, amidst the total silence of Bonifacio open field, the crowd would hear the first few chords to the song, “Pare Ko”. They’ll all look up to the stage, lonely without Ely, and they’ll begin to sing. One by one, they’ll start to chant…

“O Pare ko, meron akong problema. Huwag mong sabihin nanaman…”

Then, we would all have sung as one. Then, we’d leave with water gushing from our eyes, our hearts filled to the brim.

Now, that's the way to end the concert of the year.

BLANKETS

I just finished Craig Thompson’s, “Blankets” and happily, I’ve found something to add to my list of favorite books. It’s a graphic novel about an outsider who grows up and tries to find his place in the world. It’s been a while since I’ve found a book that’s moved me so profoundly and it makes sense that it's autobiographical, because I get very personal. Apparently, a lot of other people can relate the book because my friend who lent it to me loved it. So did the judges of the Eisner Award. So did Neil Gaiman who said that it was probably the most important graphic novel since, "Jimmy Corrigan".

This is the page that just got me. In it, he meets up with his first love and they ride a car for the first time together. It reminds me of my own first love. I remember riding at the back of his car while his older brother drove. Our fingers would find each other even when it would get uncomfortably stuck in between the seat and the door. Even in each other's presence, we were compelled to be even closer.

ALWAYS BE MY BABY

I'm posting the lyrics of a beloved Mariah Carey song, now repopularized by American Idol David Cook. I loved the Mariah version, maybe because it was done in that time when Mariah was a wholesome bundle of love. Remember just how innocent she looked in that tire swing? Now, she's a certified MILF who married a child instead of birthing one.

But about the song.

It's got a totally different tone when a guy sings it. Read the lyrics carefully and no doubt you'll agree- it's a stalker anthem. "You'll always be a part of me, I'm part of you indefinitely. Don't you know you can't escape me." Come on!

That got me to thinking. What's the difference between a romantic and a stalker? The romantic is simply someone you want obsessed about you. The other, you're not interested in.

We were as one babe
For a moment in time
And it seemed everlasting
That you would always be mine

Now you want to be free
So I'm letting you fly
Cause I know in my heart babe
Our love will never die
No!

You'll always be a part of me
I'm a part of you indefinitely
Girl don't you know you can't escape me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my baby
And we'll linger on
Time can't erase a feeling this strong
No way you're never gonna shake me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my baby

I ain't gonna cry no
And I won't beg you to stay
If you're determined to leave girl
I will not stand in your way
But inevitably you'll be back again
Cause ya know in your heart babe
Our love will never end no

You'll always be a part of me
I'm part of you indefinitely
Girl don't you know you can't escape me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my baby
And we'll linger on
Time can't erase a feeling this strong
No way you're never gonna shake me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my baby

I know that you'll be back girl
When your days and your nights get a little bit colder oooohhh
I know that, you'll be right back, babe
Ooooh! baby believe me it's only a matter of time

You'll always be apart of me
I'm part of you indefinitely
Girl don't you know you can't escape me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my baby
And we'll linger on
Time can't erase a feeling this strong
No way you're never gonna shake me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my my baby....

You'll always be apart of me (you will always be)
I'm part of you indefinitely
Girl don't you know you can't escape me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my baby
And we'll linger on (we will linger on....)
Time can't erase a feeling this strong
No way you're never gonna shake me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my baby

U.P. Skate Sundays

Everything can go down the drain, but you forget everything when you ride that concrete wave. Thanks to Dante D. for the great pic.

I've turned a new chapter in my life and I think it's time to get personal once again. Besides, my legions of fans are insisting I write again so here goes nothing :)

A blog dedicated to whatever. No more drama. Just pure kababawan.

BALIK BAYAN/

Wala akong masabi. Ang ganda ng Pilipinas.
Kahit pa man traffic. Kahit pa man mainit.

In a sea of white faces and mixed cultures,
doon ko nakita kong sino talaga ako.

Isa akong Filipino.

Ngayon ang tanong, ano ba talaga ang Filipino?
EWAN.
Sa ngayon, kuntento na ako sa tanong.
Ang tanong na ito ang bumulabog sa akin sa States.
Ang tanong na ito ang nagbibigay tunay na kailangan kong bumalik.

Putangina! It's good to be back.
(Sorry for swearing, pero wala talagang tatalo sa lutong ng murang Filipino)
